The Hodds Salver is a foursome KO competition for Men who are 60 years of age or over and
who have not played in the Myhill, Cullington, Barnard, (or in Suffolk the Tolly Cobbold, Hambro, Parks or Beaumont) County competitions during the preceding summer season. 4 Pairs make up a team playing over 18 holes. Scoring is by holes, the side winning the greater number of holes is deemed the winner. To compensate for home advantage two complimentary holes are awarded to the away team. The Hodds Salvers Round 2 match against Richmond Park at King's Lynn, was played on a windy but sunny day. The first few holes were shared by all the pairs but evenually King's Lynn took the lead in 3 matches. By the end of 9 holes, David Dunsmore and Philip Gurr were 3 up against Rod Whyatt and Bill Luck in the first match. In the second match Barry Smith and Ishak Ismail were 5 up. In the third match Richard Kerkham and Trevor Bartle who faced tough opposition against Pete Daves and Joe Dickerson, were 2 down. The last match consisted of Terry Harris and Des Mallows who turned 1up through 9 holes. After trading holes on the back 9 the matches finished as follows. Match 1 were 2 holes up, Match 2 were 10 holes up, Match 3 were 3 holes down and Match 4 were 1 hole up. The team ended up 10 holes up but with the adjustment for the away team the result was a well earned win for King's Lynn by 8 holes.
